Position: Accountant (Assistant)

For over nine years, ECOWICE has been assisting farmers in Tanzania to create eco-friendly products while promoting wildlife conservation through economic empowerment and environmental preservation. This initiative has enabled 625 farmers to avoid harmful practices like charcoal production and illegal hunting. As a result, the survival of wildlife and their habitats has significantly improved.

Our operations extend to three districts in Tanzania: Mvomero, Rungwe, and Namtumbo. We are currently searching for an accountant to collaborate closely with our finance department to implement financial plans and policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume overall responsibility for entering data into the accounting system and maintaining the integrity of accounting system data.
  • Process invoices and prepare checks for approval and signature.
  • Conduct bank deposits as needed.
  • Manage payroll processing.
  • Maintain and update the general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts regularly.
  • Handle the mailing of vendor checks.
  • Supervise and oversee Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Manage the petty cash fund.
  • Receive and open all incoming accounting department mail, excluding bank statements.
  • Monitor and manage all expenses to optimize asset utilization.
  • Keep track of grant reporting and ensure the appropriate release of temporarily restricted funds.
  • Oversee expense allocations.
  • Monitor and provide recommendations for asset retirement and replacement.
  • Review, revise, and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures.
  • Initiate donor thank-you letter acknowledgments.
  • Review all financial reports for accuracy and compliance.

Eligibilities

  • Ability to work as part of a team and take direction accurately
  • Competent IT skills, particularly proficiency with spreadsheet software.
  • High level of accuracy
  • Extremely organized in a manner that is easily read by others
  • Trustworthy and discreet when dealing with confidential information
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems, personal computers and general software applications
  • Skill's in performing detailed and complex numerical computation and reports
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication in both Swahili and English language
  • Holder of a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field with a minimum of one year of experience
